North Ridge

3A | AD | III Edit route
The North Ridge is a more serious and steeper alpine route on Riffelhorn. It is a well-known climbing line with more sustained difficulty than the normal south-side ascent. The route involves exposed ridge climbing and can require careful protection and route-finding. It is less straightforward than the South Ridge and is better suited to climbers comfortable on alpine rock. Snow, verglas, or loose rock can significantly increase the seriousness. It is typically climbed in stable weather and dry conditions.

The South Ridge is the classic and best-known mountaineering route on Riffelhorn. It is generally considered an easy alpine climb with short sections of rock and mixed terrain. The route is popular as a training and acclimatization objective above Zermatt. Despite its modest difficulty, the ridge can feel exposed and requires secure movement on alpine rock. Conditions and route-finding can vary, especially if snow or ice remains on the upper sections. It is commonly climbed as a day outing from the Zermatt area.
