This is the standard and best-documented mountaineering line on Jbel Toubkal, usually climbed from the Toubkal refuge. It is a non-technical alpine ascent on steep scree, broken rock, and occasional snow or ice early in the season. The route is straightforward in clear weather but can be tiring because of the sustained altitude and loose terrain. In winter or after fresh snow, the upper slopes can require crampons and an ice axe. The final section to the summit follows a broad ridge with little technical difficulty but significant exposure to wind and weather. It is commonly descended the same way.
