North Face Route

This is the classic and best-known mountaineering line on Pic Balaïtous. It is a high-mountain route combining approach terrain, rocky sections, and depending on conditions, snow or mixed climbing in the upper mountain. The route is generally considered a serious alpine ascent rather than a simple hike. Route-finding can be important, especially in poor visibility or when snow covers the rock steps. Objective hazards include loose rock, snow/ice patches, and rapid weather changes typical of the Pyrenees. It is usually done from a refuge base and requires standard alpine equipment and experience.

The North Ridge is a classic alpine ridge line on Pic Balaïtous. It is a more direct and aesthetic mountaineering route than the normal ascent, with sustained exposure and route-finding on rocky terrain. Depending on conditions, it may involve mixed climbing and short technical passages. The ridge is serious in bad weather because of exposure and the complexity of the terrain. It is best attempted by climbers with solid alpine movement and navigation skills.
