Normal route via the Südgrat (south ridge) from the Klausen Pass / Schärhorn Hut area

This is the standard documented alpine route to Gross Schärhorn and is typically climbed from the Schärhorn Hut area. It follows the south ridge, with a combination of snow, rock, and exposed ridge climbing. The route is generally considered a moderate alpine climb rather than a pure hiking ascent. Conditions can vary significantly with snow cover, and route-finding may be important in the upper sections. Objective hazards include loose rock, cornices, and steep snow slopes depending on season. It is usually done as a day ascent from the hut by competent mountaineers with alpine equipment.
