Normal route via the south face and south ridge
This is the standard and best-documented mountaineering route on Pic d'Olan. It is an alpine mixed route on steep rock and snow, with a sustained mountain character rather than a hiking approach. The route is typically described as a long and serious climb in the Ecrins, with route-finding important on the face and ridge. Conditions can vary significantly with snow and ice, which can increase the difficulty. Exposure is present on the ridge sections near the summit. It is not a trekking route and requires full alpine equipment and experience.
