Normal Route via the North Face and East Ridge

This is the standard and best-known route on La Tour Ronde, combining glacier travel with a short but serious alpine climb. The route typically involves crevasse navigation and objective hazards from seracs and snow conditions on the approach. The upper mountain is usually climbed on mixed snow and ice terrain before reaching the east ridge. The difficulty is moderate in technical terms but can become much more serious in poor conditions or late in the season. It is a classic Mont Blanc Massif alpine objective rather than a pure rock climb. Route choice and descent conditions are strongly dependent on snow stability and glacier state.

Route Outline

Start from the Aiguille du Midi area or the Torino Hut approach depending on conditions
Cross the Glacier du Géant / Col du Midi sector to reach the base of La Tour Ronde
Ascend the north face to the upper slopes and gain the east ridge
Follow the east ridge to the summit of La Tour Ronde
Descend by the same route or via the normal descent line according to conditions

The South Face is a recognized alpine route on La Tour Ronde and is generally more serious than the normal route. It is a steeper, more committing line with mixed snow and ice climbing. The route is less straightforward than the north-side ascent and is more dependent on stable conditions. It is a genuine mountaineering line rather than a hiking ascent. Parties should expect a more technical and exposed climb than on the standard route.
