Normal Route via Karasawa Cirque and Oku-Hotaka-dake

3A | AD | III Edit route
This is the standard and best-documented alpine route to Oku-Hotaka-dake, approached from the Karasawa Cirque side in the Hotaka range. It is a genuine mountaineering route rather than a simple hiking trail, with exposed rock sections and route-finding on steep alpine terrain. Conditions can vary greatly with snow and ice lingering well into the season, increasing objective hazard. The route is commonly climbed with an overnight stay in the Karasawa area or nearby hut. The final section to the summit is the most technical part, involving scrambling and short climbing passages. Weather changes quickly in the Hida Mountains, and rockfall or slippery slabs can be serious concerns.
