Normal Route (Southwest Route)

2A | PD | II Edit route
This is the standard and best-documented ascent route on Nevado Coropuna. It is a high-altitude snow-and-ice climb on broad glaciated slopes rather than a technical rock route. The main objective hazards are altitude, cold, crevasses, and changing snow conditions. Route-finding is generally straightforward in good visibility, but glacier travel skills are required. The route is commonly climbed from a high camp or bivouac on the mountain. Conditions can vary significantly with season and glacier retreat.
