This is the standard and most frequently climbed route on Gran Paradiso. It is a classic alpine glacier ascent with a straightforward but serious high-mountain character. The route is usually climbed from one of two well-known huts, most commonly Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II or Rifugio Chabod. The main objective hazards are crevasses, hard snow or ice conditions, and route-finding on the glacier in poor visibility. The final section to the summit is a short mixed ridge that is exposed but not technically difficult in normal conditions. Despite its moderate technical grade, it requires full glacier equipment and sound alpine judgment.
