Normal route from Zittelhaus / Sonnblick Observatory via the summit ridge
This is the standard and best-documented way to the summit of Hoher Sonnblick. It is an alpine mountaineering route rather than a hiking trail, but it is generally straightforward in dry summer conditions. The route follows the exposed summit ridge and short rocky sections above the high mountain hut and observatory. Snow, ice, or poor visibility can significantly increase the seriousness of the climb. The main objective hazards are exposure, wind, and lingering snowfields or verglas. It is commonly graded in the easy alpine range, roughly equivalent to PD / UIAA I-II.
