Normal Route from Vega de Urriellu via the Jou de Cerredo

This is the standard and best-known ascent of Torrecerredo, the highest summit in the Picos de Europa. It is a serious alpine route rather than a simple hike, with steep rocky ground, loose scree, and route-finding in a complex karst landscape. The climb is usually approached from the Urriellu area, often using the refuge as the base for the ascent. The upper section involves sustained scrambling on exposed rock, with conditions that can become much more committing in wet weather or with snow. Objective hazards include loose stone, poor visibility, and the difficulty of navigation among the jous and rocky ribs. It is generally considered a mountaineering outing requiring sure-footedness and comfort on exposed terrain.
