Normal route from the Similaunhütte via the Niederjochferner

This is the standard and best-known ascent of Hintere Schwärze from the Italian/Austrian border area. It is a classic glacier route, normally climbed with full alpine equipment and crevasse awareness. The difficulties are generally moderate, but conditions on the Niederjochferner can vary significantly with season and crevasse opening. The upper slopes and summit ridge are exposed to snow and ice conditions that can make the route more serious than the nominal grade suggests.
