Normal Route from the Monte Rosa Hut via the Schwarztor and the south ridge

2A | PD | II Edit route
This is the standard and best-known route on Pollux. It is a classic alpine snow-and-rock climb rather than a hike. The route usually starts from the Monte Rosa Hut and crosses glacier terrain before reaching the Schwarztor. From there, the south ridge is followed to the summit, with short sections of easy scrambling and exposed climbing. Conditions can vary significantly with snow and ice, and crevasse or serac hazards may be present on the glacier approach. The route is commonly climbed with crampons and an ice axe, and rope use is normal for many parties. It is generally considered the most straightforward way to the summit of Pollux.
