Normal Route from La Renclusa Hut via the Maladeta Glacier

This is the standard and best-documented ascent route to Pico de la Maladeta. It is a classic glaciated alpine climb, usually undertaken from the La Renclusa refuge. The route involves snow and glacier travel, so crevasse awareness and proper glacier equipment are required. Conditions vary significantly with season, and the upper slopes can become steep and icy. In late season, the glacier may be broken and more technically awkward than the nominal grade suggests. The route is generally considered the normal way to the summit and is the most commonly described line in guidebooks.

North Face Route

3A | AD | III
A documented alpine route on the north side of Pico de la Maladeta. It is more serious than the normal glacier ascent and is typically described as a steeper, more committing mountaineering line. Snow and ice conditions strongly affect difficulty and objective hazard. The face is exposed to rockfall and avalanche risk depending on season and weather. Because route conditions vary, the practical difficulty can range well beyond the nominal grade. This is not a hiking route and requires solid alpine experience.
