Normal Route from Klein Matterhorn / Breithorn Plateau

This is the standard and best-documented way to the summit of Breithorn orientale, usually climbed as part of the Breithorn traverse from the Klein Matterhorn area. The route follows the broad glaciated Breithorn Plateau and then ascends the east summit by snow slopes and a short final ridge section. It is generally considered a straightforward alpine snow climb, but it is still a glacier route with crevasse and weather exposure. Conditions can vary significantly with snow cover, wind, and visibility, and rope travel is commonly used. The route is often combined with the other Breithorn summits, but the east summit can also be climbed independently. Because access is from high altitude, the objective difficulty is modest compared with the altitude and glacier hazards.
