Normal route from Britanniahütte via Adlerpass

This is the standard and best-known ascent of Strahlhorn. It is a classic high-alpine glacier route, usually climbed from the Britanniahütte. The route crosses glacier terrain and then ascends broad snow slopes to the summit ridge. Objective hazards include crevasses and, depending on conditions, avalanche danger on the upper slopes. The technical difficulty is modest, but the route requires solid glacier travel skills and good route-finding. It is commonly graded as a straightforward alpine climb rather than a technical rock ascent.

Normal route from Monte Rosa Hütte via the east side

2A | PD | II
A second established way to climb Strahlhorn starts from the Monte Rosa Hütte and approaches the mountain from the east side. It is also a glacier-and-snow ascent with no sustained technical climbing. The route is longer in overall mountain travel than the Britanniahütte approach, but the difficulties are similar. Crevasses and changing snow conditions are the main objective concerns. The final section to the summit is on snow slopes and a broad ridge. This is a documented alpine route, but it is less commonly cited than the Britanniahütte normal route.
