Mytikas Route

This is the standard documented mountaineering route to the highest summit of Mount Olympus. It is not a simple hike: the final section involves exposed scrambling on steep, often loose limestone. In dry conditions it is usually climbed without technical rope work by experienced mountaineers, but the route can feel serious because of exposure and route-finding. The upper mountain is prone to sudden weather changes, strong winds, cloud, and poor visibility. Rockfall and loose blocks are common hazards, especially when other parties are above. The route is typically approached from the Prionia side and often combined with an overnight at a refuge.

Louki (The Gully)

Louki is the classic more direct alpine line on Mount Olympus and is substantially more serious than the normal scramble route. It climbs a steep gully on unstable limestone, where rockfall and poor holds are the main objective dangers. The route is exposed and can require careful movement and, in less favorable conditions, rope protection. It is best attempted only by climbers comfortable with loose alpine terrain and route-finding. Because the mountain is often dry and sunny, the gully can still hold loose debris and remains hazardous even in good weather. This route is documented in climbing sources as a mountaineering ascent of Mytikas.

Stefani North Face / North Ridge routes

4A | D | IV
Stefani, the prominent summit beside Mytikas, has established alpine climbing routes on its north face and ridges. These are genuine mountaineering lines rather than hiking routes and are generally more technical than the normal ascent of Mytikas. The rock is limestone and can be loose in places, with exposure and route-finding adding to the seriousness. Conditions can vary greatly with weather, and the north side may stay colder and more serious than the sunlit south-facing terrain. These routes are documented in climbing literature for Mount Olympus. They are appropriate only for experienced climbers with alpine movement skills.
