Matrashaus normal route

2A | PD | II Edit route
This is the standard and best-known mountaineering route to the summit of Hochkönig. It is a high-mountain ascent from the Matrashaus, involving steep rocky paths and exposed sections rather than a pure hiking trail. In settled conditions it is generally considered a straightforward alpine route, but it still requires sure-footedness and good weather. Snow, ice, or poor visibility can significantly increase the difficulty and objective hazard. The route is commonly used as the normal way to the summit from the hut. It is documented in alpine guide material for the Hochkönig massif.

More routes on Hochkönig

This is a more serious alpine route on Hochkönig, typically described as a route through the Birgkar. It is steeper and more exposed than the normal Matrashaus ascent and is therefore less suitable for casual hikers. The route demands good route-finding, alpine experience, and stable conditions. Loose rock and residual snow can make the upper mountain hazardous. It is a documented mountaineering line on the peak rather than a simple walking approach. The exact timing and quantitative route data are not consistently published in the sources I can verify.
