Höllental Route

3B | AD+/D− | III/IV Edit route
This is the classic alpine route on the German side of Zugspitze and is widely documented in guidebooks. It combines glacier travel, steep rock, and long sections of fixed protection. The route is significantly more serious than a normal hiking ascent and requires alpine experience, sure-footedness, and appropriate equipment. Objective hazards include crevasses, rockfall, and rapidly changing weather. The upper section is exposed and can be crowded in good conditions. It is commonly graded in the difficult via ferrata / alpine climbing range rather than as a simple hike.

Stopselzieher Route

The Stopselzieher is a named alpine route on the western side of Zugspitze and is documented as a mountaineering ascent. It is less committing than the Höllental route but still involves steep, exposed terrain and fixed aids in places. The route is not a pure hiking trail and is treated as an alpine climb. Conditions can vary greatly with snow, ice, and wet rock. It is generally considered a classic, historical ascent line on the mountain.

Jubiläumsgrat

4B | D+ | IV/V
The Jubiläumsgrat is one of the best-known alpine ridge traverses in the Wetterstein and reaches Zugspitze at its eastern end. It is a long, serious, and very exposed mountaineering route with sustained scrambling and climbing on broken limestone. The route is famous for its length, commitment, and the need for excellent route-finding and stable weather. It is not a hiking route and is much more demanding than the normal summit approaches. Many parties traverse it as a major alpine objective rather than as a direct ascent. The final section to Zugspitze is part of the documented ridge route.
