East Ridge

5B | TD+/ED1 | V/VI Edit route
The East Ridge is the best-known and most established alpine route on Mount Tasman. It is a serious high-alpine climb involving glacier travel, steep snow, and mixed ridge climbing. Conditions on the route can vary significantly with snow cover and ice exposure. Crevasse hazard on the approach glaciers is an important objective risk. The ridge itself is exposed and requires competent route-finding and efficient movement in alpine terrain. It is generally treated as a major mountaineering objective rather than a simple snow climb.

West Ridge

5B | TD+/ED1 | V/VI
The West Ridge is a documented alpine route on Mount Tasman and is considered a serious mountaineering climb. It typically involves glacier approach, steep snow, and exposed ridge sections. The route demands sound judgment in avalanche, ice, and crevasse conditions. Rock and mixed climbing difficulties can increase when the ridge is lean. It is a major objective in the Southern Alps and is not a trekking route. Route conditions and exact line can vary from season to season.
