Arakawa Route

2A | PD | II Edit route
The Arakawa Route is a well-known documented climbing route on Kita-dake and is one of the classic approaches from the south side. It is generally an alpine hiking-and-climbing line rather than a technical face route, but conditions can become serious in snow, ice, or poor visibility. The route is long and remote enough that climbers usually plan for a full mountain day or an overnight stay. Upper sections can involve steep terrain and route-finding, especially when snow covers the trail. It is best treated as a mountaineering objective rather than a simple walk-up. Exact ascent and descent times are not stated here because they depend heavily on season and access point.

Yokodake Route

2A | PD | II
This is one of the standard documented climbing approaches to Kita-dake from the Yokodake side. It is a long alpine ascent rather than a technical rock climb, but it is still a serious mountain route because of the overall elevation gain and exposure to weather. The route typically follows established mountain paths and then climbs onto the upper ridges near the summit. In early season or after storms, snow and ice can make the upper mountain much more demanding. The route is commonly used by climbers staying at Kita-dake Sanso or nearby huts. Exact distance and timing vary significantly with season and starting point, so no single documented figure is given here.
