This is the classic alpine climbing line on Vihren’s south side and is documented as a mountaineering route rather than a hiking ascent. It climbs steep limestone terrain on the mountain’s south face and upper buttresses. The route is generally considered the most serious standard way to the summit, with exposed scrambling and short climbing sections. Rock quality can vary, and route-finding is important, especially in poor visibility. Conditions may include loose stone and lingering snow or ice in the upper face. It is a summer alpine objective rather than a simple trail walk.

The north face of Vihren is a well-known mountaineering objective and is significantly more serious than the normal hiking approaches. It involves steep, exposed alpine terrain with a more sustained climbing character than the south-side routes. Depending on conditions, snow and ice can be present for much of the season, increasing objective hazard. The line is suitable only for experienced climbers comfortable with route-finding and mixed mountain conditions. Rockfall and rapidly changing weather are important concerns. This is a genuine alpine route, not a trekking path.
