This is the standard documented mountaineering route to the Silvrettahorn and is generally climbed from the Jamtalhütte side. It follows the south ridge in mixed alpine terrain with snow, ice, and short rocky sections. The route is usually considered a straightforward alpine climb rather than a technical rock route, but conditions can change significantly with snow cover and glacier state. Crevasse and route-finding hazards may be present on the approach. The upper ridge is typically the key climbing section and requires sure-footedness and basic alpine experience. Descent is normally by the ascent route.

The north ridge is a documented alpine route on the Silvrettahorn and is more serious than the normal south-ridge ascent. It involves exposed mixed climbing on rock and snow, with route-finding and protection considerations typical of a classic alpine ridge. The difficulty is strongly dependent on conditions, especially snow and ice on the ridge. It is a mountaineering route rather than a hiking path. Parties should expect a more committing outing than the normal route. Descent is commonly made carefully along the ascent line unless conditions and local knowledge suggest otherwise.
