This is the standard documented alpine route to Schrankogel and is typically climbed from the Amberger Hut. It crosses glacier terrain and then continues on broad snow and scree slopes to the summit ridge. The route is generally straightforward in mountaineering terms but requires glacier travel skills and appropriate equipment. Objective hazards include crevasses on the Schwarzenbergferner and changing snow conditions. Later in the season, the upper slopes can become more tedious and loose. The route is usually considered a moderate alpine climb rather than a technical rock ascent.
