This is the classic and best-known mountaineering route to Pique Longue, the highest point of the Vignemale massif. The North Face of Pique Longue is a serious alpine route and one of the mountain's better-known technical lines. It is substantially more demanding than the normal glacier route, with sustained steep mixed climbing and more committing conditions. The face is exposed to rockfall and icefall, especially in warm or unstable weather. Route-finding can be complex because conditions change rapidly and the line may vary with snow cover. This is a route for experienced alpinists comfortable on steep alpine terrain. It is documented in established Pyrenean mountaineering literature.
