The north face is a well-known alpine objective on Pic du Midi d'Ossau and is documented in climbing literature. It is substantially more serious than the normal route, with steeper terrain and greater objective hazards. The route typically involves mixed climbing on rock and possibly snow or ice depending on season. Rockfall, loose sections, and rapid weather changes are important concerns. Because conditions vary widely, the difficulty can change markedly from one season to another. This is a true mountaineering route, not a trekking line.
