This is the standard and best-documented mountaineering line on Pic de l'Étendard. It is a glaciated alpine ascent with a straightforward but serious snow-and-ice character. The route typically starts from the Refuge de l'Étendard and crosses the Glacier de Saint-Sorlin before finishing on the summit slopes. Objective hazards include crevasses, snow bridges, and changing glacier conditions. In late season, the upper slopes can become more broken and require careful route-finding. It is generally considered the normal route rather than a technical rock climb.
