Normal Route

2A | PD | II
The Normal Route is the standard and best-documented way to climb Nevado Sajama. It is a high-altitude snow and glacier ascent with no technical rock climbing, but it is serious because of the elevation and exposure to cold, wind, and altitude sickness. The route is generally climbed from a high camp or bivouac established on the mountain, then continues on broad snow slopes toward the summit. Crevasse and snow conditions can vary, so glacier travel skills and appropriate protection are needed. The upper mountain is typically straightforward in angle but can be strenuous and slow due to altitude. Descent is usually by the ascent route.
