Add route
This is the standard and best-known ascent of Lagginhorn. It is a classic alpine snow-and-rock route, generally climbed from the Hohsaas side via Lagginjoch and the west ridge. The difficulties are moderate but sustained, with exposed scrambling and mixed terrain near the summit ridge. Conditions can vary significantly with snow cover, especially on the upper ridge and in the approach to the col. The route is usually done as a long day from the Hohsaas area or with a hut approach in the region. Objective hazards include rockfall, hard snow, and poor visibility on the upper mountain.

Northwest Ridge

3A | AD | III
The northwest ridge is a more serious alpine route than the normal west-ridge ascent. It is a genuine mountaineering line with more sustained climbing and greater exposure than the standard route. The ridge involves mixed rock and snow, and route-finding can be important in poor conditions. It is less commonly climbed than the normal route and is more dependent on stable weather and dry rock. The route is suitable for experienced alpinists comfortable on exposed ridge terrain. Descent is commonly made by reversing the route or by using a standard descent if conditions and logistics allow.

The southwest face or southwest ridge is a documented alpine route on Lagginhorn, offering a steeper and more committing alternative to the normal route. It combines rock and snow climbing on a high alpine face/ridge system. The line is more technical and more exposed than the standard west-ridge ascent, with objective hazards from loose rock and changing snow conditions. It requires solid route-finding and efficient movement on mixed terrain. Because of its character, it is generally attempted by experienced climbers in good conditions. Exact timings and metrics vary by source and are not given here.
