This is the established standard ascent to Krottenkopf and is generally treated as a mountain route rather than a technical climb. It follows the north side and ridge terrain above the Kemptner Hut. The route is usually straightforward in dry summer conditions but can require sure-footedness. Snow, ice, or lingering spring conditions can significantly increase difficulty and objective hazard. The upper mountain is exposed to weather and visibility changes. Route-finding is important near the ridge and summit slopes.
