This is the classic alpine route to Kleinglockner and the standard way to reach the summit in combination with Großglockner. It is a serious high-mountain climb on mixed rock, snow, and glacier terrain. The route is exposed and requires secure movement on steep ridge sections and careful route-finding. Objective hazards include rockfall, ice, and rapidly changing weather. In normal conditions it is a guided-alpine route rather than a technical rock climb, but it is not a hiking trail. The summit of Kleinglockner is usually passed as part of the traverse rather than as an isolated objective.
