Kīlauea (4,091 ft / 1,247 m) is one of the world's most active volcanoes and a highlight of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. Its summit caldera and Halema‘uma‘u crater offer dramatic views of lava lakes (when active) and steaming vents. The popular Crater Rim Drive and short trails like Kīlauea Iki (4 miles loop) provide access to lava tubes, rainforests, and recent eruption sites. The 2018 eruption dramatically reshaped the landscape. It's a top destination for volcano watching, with ranger talks, glowing lava at night, and sulfur steam vents. Sacred to Native Hawaiians as home of the fire goddess Pele.
