The Regular Route is the classic established climbing line on Half Dome and is the route most commonly documented in Yosemite climbing references. It follows the northwest side of the dome and incorporates the famous cable section near the top. The route is not a pure hiking trail in its climbing context, but it is generally considered the standard ascent line rather than a technical alpine climb. Objective hazards are limited compared with steeper Yosemite big-wall routes, but exposure is significant on the upper slabs and cable section. Conditions can make the route much more serious, especially when wet, icy, or crowded. The route is typically treated as a long day from the valley, with route-finding and congestion being the main practical concerns.
