This is the standard mountaineering route on Grand Tournalin and is commonly described as the south ridge from the Cheneil side. It is an alpine scrambling route rather than a technical rock climb, but it still requires sure-footedness and comfort on steep mountain terrain. The route follows a broad ridge with some steeper sections near the upper mountain. In normal conditions it is straightforward for experienced alpine hikers and mountaineers, but snow or ice can significantly increase difficulty. The main objective hazards are exposure on the ridge, loose rock in places, and rapidly changing weather. It is typically climbed as a day outing from Cheneil or from a nearby valley access point.

The north ridge is a documented alpine route on Grand Tournalin and is generally considered an easier mountaineering line rather than a technical climb. It is a ridge ascent with mixed rocky and grassy mountain terrain, and it demands route-finding in poor visibility. The line is exposed in places and can feel more serious when snow remains on the ridge. It is best undertaken in stable weather and dry conditions. As with many alpine ridges in the area, loose rock and corniced or icy sections can be the main difficulties. The route is usually climbed by experienced parties comfortable with Grade II terrain.
